Game Recommendation #2: Half-Life

As a veteran gamer, I have played many games in my gaming life. Most of which I liked, but some I just hated with a passion. One of the games I just adored was Half-Life. The game was one of the first to use scripted scenes, making it evolutionary for gaming. The game continues to be a favorite classic of many, and has several expansions and sequels. The game has a large plot around it's setting, especially the second game. But this is Half-Life, the first ever.

Half-Life was released in 1998 by Valve Corporation. Half-Life was Valve's first game to be devoloped, and was the start of a largely popular franchise and fan community. However, Valve first had trouble finding a publisher for the game, but Sierra On-line took interest when they were seeking a 3D game. On the day of it's release, critics praised the flowing narrative. The game soon recieved over 50 Game of the Year awards, is considered one of the greatest computer games of all time. The game itself influenced many first-person shooters for years after it's release. By July of 2007, the game has sold over 20 million units.

Half-Life cover art, which has the title, and the Lambda symbol, which is also used in the scientific half life, hence the name of the game.

The main character, or the player, is Gordon Freeman, who is Theoretical Scientist. He takes part in accidentally opening a portal to an alien world, Xen. You must fight through the science facility Black Mesa to survive.

Overall, since I don't want to go to in-depth, the game itself is amazing. The graphics, however, are outdated, so I recommend downloading Black Mesa, a community re-make that makes the game look even more awesome. The original could be bought on Steam. I totally recommend this game, and it's franchise.
